Volusia County Transit Services Joins 2023 Mobility Week to Promote Sustainable Modes of Transportation

October 24, 2023

The Volusia County Transit Services Division will participate in the 2023 Mobility Week, taking place from Oct. 27 to Nov. 4, and invites residents to join the initiative. This annual event, spearheaded by the Florida Department of Transportation, spotlights the significance of safe, diverse transportation options through a series of outreach events and programs.

Mobility Week is a perfect time for residents to explore sustainable travel choices such as taking public transportation, walking, biking, or carpooling. By choosing sustainable transport, residents will not just contribute to a healthier planet, but they'll also get a break from the daily stress of traffic, saving money on fuel and rediscovering the joys of the community.

To celebrate and inform, the division's staff will host two special rider appreciation events where attendees can pick up novelty items and engage in conversations about navigating Volusia County without a personal car:

  • 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the DeBary SunRail Station, 630 S. Charles Richard Beall Blvd.
  • 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Votran Transfer Plaza, 207 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd., Daytona Beach.

Transit Planning Manager Ralf Heseler commended the benefits of sustainable transportation: "I challenge everyone to set aside just one trip during Mobility Week to savor the beauty of our county without the use of a personal vehicle. Be it a Votran bus for errands, a bike ride to a local restaurant, or even walking your kids to school, you could discover a heightened sense of connection to the world outside the confines of a car."
