VoRide Hits the Streets of DeLand with Fares of Only $2 per Passenger

December 5, 2023

VoRide, Volusia County's new curb-to-curb rideshare initiative, is now available in the DeLand service region. Residents and visitors seeking to use the new service can download the app in the App Store and Google Play.

VoRide stands out with its unmatched affordable pricing. Each ride is priced at a flat rate of only $2 per passenger, regardless of the time or day, ensuring an economical option for riders. This pricing feature eliminates the worry of peak-time surcharges, making VoRide the budget-friendly choice for travel. The service adopts a genuine rideshare model, which may involve sharing rides with other passengers. This approach keeps costs low for riders and promotes sustainable transportation. All vehicles will have the VoRide and County logos prominently displayed and will be driven by employees of the County's contractor, Via, who have undergone extensive background and driving record screens.

In the County's continued commitment to inclusivity, VoRide will offer discounted fares for children aged 7 to 18, individuals with disabilities, and seniors over 65. A wheelchair-accessible vehicle can also be conveniently requested through the app. Furthermore, children under 7 can ride free with a paying guardian. Payment can be made through the app or in cash to the driver; tips will not be accepted.

For persons needing to travel beyond the DeLand service area, VoRide offers an integrated solution by connecting those riders with Votran buses. This ensures that passengers can continue their journey without extra charges in most instances, providing an extended reach beyond the region.

The VoRide app has been designed to be user-friendly, allowing riders to easily book trips and insert payment methods. Users can view the estimated arrival time of their driver, secure their ride, and track the driver's location in real-time. This functionality seeks to enhance the daily commute and simplify trips to various destinations such as work, stores, doctor appointments, and social gatherings.

Operating from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays, VoRide aims to meet a wide range of transportation needs. The service will not operate on Sundays or holidays, and there are plans to expand into the DeBary, Deltona, and Orange City areas in 2024. Individuals unable to use the app can call 386-210-9861 or visit www.votran.org.
